This area of the web site is devoted to state and county government. Every state in the United States has an “official” state government web portal. Some provide more services over the internet than others, but they all have an “official” government operated and maintained web site. The same cannot be said about county governments. Many county governments in the country have no identifiable web or internet presence. Many more have little more than a sparse presence, with little or no services available through their web site. Unofficial sites, economic development organization sites, or web sites of chambers of commerce do not qualify and will not be listed on this web site in place of county government sites.
This web site will only list web sites that are “official” county government web sites operated and maintained by legally established county governments.
If you live in a county where your county government has no “official” web portal, they are missing out on a golden opportunity to provide much valuable information for the citizens of the county. In particular, emergency management agencies at the county level are very frequently the first and best place for citizens to go to for information on emergency and disaster preparedness and response. Law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and emergency medical services agencies at the county or municipal level likewise rely upon their county emergency management agency to provide valuable information to the public on emergency and disaster preparedness and response, and how law enforcement, fire, and EMS are involved in helping communities prepare, plan for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Many of these agencies have programs where they collaborate with their county emergency management agency to educate the public on disaster preparedness.
