Web Site Author

This site is the work of one person. It was conceived by, is authored, published, and will be maintained by myself.  My name is Diane Saunders. The material contained in this web site was researched, constructed, and is published by me. I reserve all rights under the laws of the United States to the authorship of the material contained in this site, except for any material supplied to me by others for inclusion in this site.

I have previously worked in emergency services, having spent almost 12 years with the City of Middleton, Wisconsin, Emergency Medical Service (1988-2000) as an EMT-D.  I am currently a member of the Minnesota-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (MN-1 DMAT), having served on the team since 2003. I am employed in Minnesota as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Web Site Purpose

There is a vast amount of information available on the internet about the subject of emergency and disaster preparedness and response, but it seems there is no one site which brings it all together into a comprehensive information and education source on the topic.

This site is an effort to address the need for a “one-stop-shop” source of information on this extremely important topic.

I have researched the internet and other sources in an effort to pull together information and information sources on disaster preparedness, disaster response, and the related topics of emergency preparedness and emergency response. Actually, all these topics are essentially the same, but the term “disaster” usually involves much more than the term “emergency.”

Life can include many emergencies, big and small, but a disaster is usually something we define as being an incident that overwhelms our resources available to us with which we can respond to the incident. When that incident happens in our community, a larger part of the state we live in, or a region of the country, then we may call it a “state of emergency,” or a disaster.

On this site you will find information which can help you plan for, prepare for, and respond to emergencies and disasters alike. If you are involved in emergency or disaster preparedness and response, or are in the emergency services (law enforcement, the fire service, emergency medical services, or urban search and rescue), you will find information here specific to what you do.

There are numerous links throughout the site to government and private sector web sites which can assist you in locating additional information and resources on the subject of emergency and disaster preparedness and response.

The site is a “work in progress,” so I hope visitors will be patient as the site develops over time. By a “work in progress,” I mean the site is constantly undergoing revision, and material will be added or removed as the need arises. Since the subjects covered by this web site will, by definition, never be “complete,” as the field is constantly evolving, that is why I say it is a “work in progress.” New information and links will be added or removed as needed.

It is my hope this site will be both informative and educational. If you, the visitor, have any links or information you would like to share with me, please see the Contact Us link to the left.

Thank you.
